VA Palo Alto Health Care System has participated in the Santos Family Car Show for the past four years because it provides a unique opportunity to connect with Veterans in a welcoming, community-based environment. Many Veterans who attend the event are not actively engaged with VA or are unaware of the health care services, benefits, and resources available to them. By bringing VA directly into the community, we can meet Veterans where they are, answer questions, assist with enrollment, and connect them with programs that support their health and well-being.
Over the past four years, the Santos Family Car Show has become one of VA Palo Alto’s most successful outreach events. It has consistently resulted in significant increases in VA health care enrollments while strengthening relationships with Veterans, their families, and community partners. The event has also expanded awareness of VA programs and services, allowing Veterans to access benefits they may not have otherwise known they were eligible to receive. Continued participation supports VA Palo Alto’s strategic outreach goals by increasing enrollment, improving access to care, and ensuring more Veterans receive the benefits and services they have earned through their military service.
