WARTAC
Participants in the Warrior Training Advancement Course, or WARTAC, will gain a long-term quality career opportunity with the federal government with endless advancement possibilities and a mission of service to the country and fellow Veterans.
Who we are and what we do
Warrior Training Advancement Course (WARTAC) is a skill-bridge education and employment opportunity for Wounded Warriors and transitioning Servicemembers to complete a national-level VBA training program while still on active duty. Successful completion of this training program leads to an employment opportunity at one of 55 VBA Regional Offices around the country.
Participants learn the skill set of a rating Veteran service representative (RVSR) or Veteran service representative (VSR). The duration of the VSR class is 6 weeks and the duration of the RVSR class is 11 weeks.

Eligibility
WARTAC is open to transitioning Service members who have 180-days or less left in service. Veterans’ Recruitment Appointment (VRA) is an excepted authority that allows agencies to appoint WARTAC graduates into VBA positions. Transition Programs

WARTAC Mandatory Briefing
You must attend a mandatory briefing before applying for a cohort. You must complete the briefing no later than 60 days before the desired cohort start date.

Rating Veteran Service Representative GS-09/12
Cohort Position Details
Duties
- Analyzes claims to determine if diseases and/or injuries were incurred or aggravated by military service in the line of duty for purposes of VA benefits.
- Determine service-connection percentages of claimed disabilities.
- Serves as the primary contact for assigning disability evaluations.
Qualifications
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-07), or
- A master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field related to the duties of this position; or
- A combination of specialized experience and graduate education
Veteran Service Representative GS-07/10
Cohort Position Details
Duties
- Explains benefit programs and entitlement criteria, conducts interviews, identifies issues, gathers relevant evidence.
- Adjudicates claims and inputs necessary data to generate the award and notification letter to the Veteran, describing the decision and the reason.
- Serves as the primary contact for the Veteran and their representative about VA compensation claims.
Qualifications
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05), or
- One full year of graduate-level education, or
- A bachelor’s degree, GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (transcripts required); or
- A combination of specialized experience and graduate education
